Children’s book concept artwork
Information: I developed my own story and characters—a monster, child, and parent—for a children’s book.
Materials: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Process: I wanted the artwork to be colorful and the backgrounds to lift off the pages. Thus, I fashioned, thick, exuberant borders to give off movement and excitement. Also, the certain hues are highly saturated to increase the characters’ emotions and expressions.
Family slumber
Animal characters for a children’s book.
Materials: Pencil, ink, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Process: I picked a line from the author’s writing, of the dogs sleeping, to depict visually. The client wanted the parents to be of different breeds—a border collie, and a boxer. Also, the puppies had to have features of both of them. I created multiple drawings and kept a lot of the strokes in the final composition to use as the fur on their bodies, either as highlights, shading, and black outlines. Then I added a shadow underneath to anchor them on the page.
Green Eyed Monster
A logo commissioned for a clothing company.
Materials: Pencil & Adobe Photoshop.
Process: Through discussions with the backer, they wanted people to envy their clothing when they see others wearing it, so what better than a green eyed monster to represent their business and name. In addition, it was used on shirts and the furrowed eyes was placed on their tags and business cards.
Underwater chase
A caricature of the client and her boyfriend.
Materials: Pencil, ink, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Process: On one hand, the client wanted their depiction similar to a comic strip. On the other hand, I decided to interject humor into it, by adding a shark chasing her and turning her boyfriend into a newt—a pun on his name. Furthermore, I gave the water a body of depth by adding light and shadow reflections all through it. Also, I emphasized movement in the picture by adding water propelling off the shark’s body and the bubbles from flutter kicks.
Red-eyes skull Helmet
Character design for comic book & videogame.
Materials: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Process: The illustration had to be intense and have a dangerous feel to it. Therefore, I decided to create a skull on the helmet with glaring, red, eyes. Also, I used filters to enhance the light and shaded parts, and simulate plastic and fiberglass in the piece.
Dove in flight
A symbolic ad for a religious organization.
Materials: Adobe Illustrator
Process: I decided on designing a dove since, it represents peace and love. Also, white is a associated with purity and positivity. Moreover, I used a gradient mesh tool in Illustrator to create the overlapping feathers, shading, and transparencies.
When Pigs fly
A mascot for a club organization.
Materials: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Process: The clients wanted a flying pig that reflected their school colors and mascot, so I incorporated those aspects by adding horns, wings, and arrowhead tail. Also, the design was used in flyers, posters, and promotional materials—water bottles, notepads, pens, beachballs, and etc.
In a hurry
A comic strip character. in action.
Materials: Pencil, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Information: I created a fictional comic of myself and things in my life. One of the characters is shown above, the dog is a likeness of my childhood pet—Jake.
Process: I redesigned this piece from a drawing, on top, to a vector image, below in Illustrator. Moreover, I used a motion blur filter and smudge tool in Photoshop on Jake and his shadow.
Calling DaD @ Work
A reinterpretation of the original illustration of children’s book.
Materials: Pencil, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Process: I made several mockup sketches to envision the writer’s ideas that were discussed before my pencil touched paper. Then I scanned my works, edited areas I felt needed tweaking, and added colors, textures, shading, and highlights to bring the pieces to life.
Room for one more
A thankyou artwork to a client.
Materials: Ink & Adobe Illustrator.
Process: I obtained an image of the client, online and rendered it into caricature drawing . In addition, it was redrawn in Illustrator. In conclusion, I decided to not make any significant changes from the original work and She was, immensely, appreciative of the gift.
Talking while jogging
Caricatures design joggers.
Material: Ink & Adobe Illustrator.
Process: I had an idea to draw a standalone comic of my exercise adventures with my wife. Additionally, I added the usual suspects on our trek, from memory. On a side note, we noticed they are always chatting while they are running, so I depicted it. furthermore, I wanted them, completely, engrossed with whatever they are talking about, to the point where they are oblivious to their surroundings.
Fierce Lion
A stock vector of lion symbol, in color.
Materials: Adobe Illustrator.
Process: I used the vector images of lions in the symbolic standing pose with the tongue out and actual lion images for my designing inspiration. In addition, I used different strokes and line thickness to mimic flexed muscles and powerful movements.
beware of aliens
Mascot images for a business organization.
Information: The patron wanted a cartoon alien that was a menacing. Moreover the image at the bottom, I imagined and designed for the patron’s business name initials; he was greatly appreciative of my work.
Materials: Pencil, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
Process: All throughout the designs, I added intricate details in the: clothes, weapon, starry background, exploding earth, spaceship, and grimacing aliens, which made the pieces have a wow factor to it.
